Liverpool University Strike - Joanne McNeill
Having taken 14 days of strike action over the sacking of 47 health and life sciences academics (in the middle of a panademic), the union is now embarking on a "marking and assessment boycott"; which should hit the university hard.
The students are on the side of the union's action. The academics are accused of not bringing in enough grant money (through citations of their work) during the pandemic period.
The union has built engagement from their base. It formed a strike committee (meetings being open to all members). The Whatsapp group has over 200 members -- which is updated every day, and has led to a 500% increase in the strike fund.
"The university is really rattled... This will affect the whole sector."
